Is their any travel to be gained by putting longer shackles on stock leaf springs? If I do my Dodge I want to put as little money into the parts for the stock stage as possible.

Even keeping your truck very stock, it would be well worth the little money that a leaf pack costs in relation to actual race costs to buy a aftermarket pack.

For the stock class would it be good to just go with say the pre-run pack from Deaver?
and maybe some 5150's(bilstein)so they stay cool?

CORRYI don't think a 5150 will stay cool in any stage of racing. Even a 2.0 res will heat up significantly, especially when valved to hell for a full size with minimal travel.

I dont know much about high performance leafs, but wont I need a custom made pack for my Dodge. It doesn't seem like my Ram is the most popular platform.

I think Deaver will make you a custom set of leaves for less then a grand which isn't bad. As for shocks, even a 2.5 on a Ram will overheat relatively fast I think. A 3.0 is probably the way to go for racing.

Ok, I haven't fully grasped the tech behind shocks so I have a few questions.
How do multiple shocks factor into what size to get, I wanted to try and buy used ones since I will upgrade to longer travel in the not to distant future and their are a lot more 2.0" and 2.5"s in the classifieds for cheap than their are 3.0"s.
Does the fact that I'll only be racing at ROR time trials affect my shock options? From what there site says they only race three laps at a time, is that enough time to overheat a 2.5"?
I only plan to race the stock class because I'm getting antsy about racing. I think I will be able to get by with only about a grand or two in parts that I wont be able to use once I go to a higher class. (I can make shackles, revalved used shocks, new springs to ditch the spacer, cheap locker) The things that I need to do that will stay on truck (cage, seats, dash, cell) I'm pretty sure I can have all this stuff done by October, I just need to get something else to drive first. This should be enough to have fun right?

I know this is a totally noob question, but would two 2.0 shox = the cooling capacity of a 3.0 or even more? I think it would because the load is being distributed between the two essentially making it a 4.0. (?) I guess cost would be a factor though..;
And if I remember correctly you dont need a cell or window nets to run TimeTrials. (?) Just like you dont need a full suit, just long pants and lace up shoes.
Hopefully that made sense....

and yes, you dont need a cell or nets or a suit for time trials. at least not as of right now. just a 4 point cage, and a good helmet.

actually read the whole thread and have decided that a single 2.5 would be the best. Even a tripple by-pass if budget allows. My reasoning...
One guaranteed fact, if running a herd of 2.0's was better in any way, you'd see 10 per wheel on the trophy trucks if that's what they needed to go faster.
and....
2.0 shocks are fine for coil overs but unless your rules mandate the use of them they ARE a sacrifice for performance! i KNOW this because i raced a CORR stock truck that required 2" shocks with out resevoirs and the shock setup was ALWAYS a compromise and usually a very poor compromise! i ran as many as 4 shocks per corner and after 8 minutes they were faded to the point of almost no damping. my new truck has a 2" coil over and 3" bypas on each corner and the setup has been great. for a pre-runner i'd recommend a 2.5" shock per corner and add your 2 incher's to the RDC classifieds!

I know I dont need all that stuff so as far as buying things goes the optional stuff comes towards the end, but I'm looking at the situation knowing that I have zero experience and the chances of me crashing aren't really in my favor, so any extra safety stuff can only help.

Trophy trucks run shocks in the neighborhood of 3-4 inches, with multiple, custom bypass tubes, so that is really not a fair comparison. Also, it is very difficult to package 10 shocks onto a trailing arm/A-arm.
Additionally, twice the shocks = twice the time/money for rebuilding and revalving.
