Hey guys. I am dropping a fuel cell in my chase truck in time for the 500. DOn't want to pay the big $$$$ when I run out of gas south of Erindira. I have only delt with cells in race cars. They sit behind the seat and are on a flat surface, typically strapped to that surface. I'm installing it into my truck (95 f-150) with no bed just shock cage and mounts for the glass. I will use angle iron to support the cell and it will be well secured to the frame and other cage points. My question is does anyone have experience with the cell bowing or flexing (eventually boldging out)at the bottom without a few cross braces directly under it? Can I build a cradle out of angle iron without plating the bottom or at least adding a few thin cross bars for lower support? I'll plate the whole damn thing but don't want all the weight if I don't need it.

Thanks in advance.

You want to put a couple supports under the cell. Check out the pics in the skunkz section. I found this picture that might help you out: http://www.race-dezert.com/skunkz/rodrigo/20.jpg the cell is what is above the x brace. What kind of cell are you using?

you can also use expanded metal too, make sure not to get the raised expanded metal as it will eat a hole in your cell....this will save you on weight and give you support underneath ....

I would use some 120 wall tubing and x the bottom, to prevent it from bulging. Its gonna weight a lot and needs to be supported right.
