I recently got my rearend from currie put together for the most part, So now i am in the process of bolting on my wilwood brake kit. I got a kit that has "hats" that bolt to the rotor. wellthe the hats bolt via a cap screw with a safety wire hole inthem already amndhte instructions say to safety wire every 2 cap screw together. Its a pain in the butt to do this. is it needed? is it easier to do with actual safety wire pliers? the safety wire is just a precation correct that should stop the cap screw from backing out right. its soemthing i am gettinf frustrated with right now and would rather not do it or possibly have someone with expeirnce do it for me. any suggestions?

The Safety wire pliers make the job tons easier. I know its a pain in the #*^! but nothing will ever fall off if done correctly. Attached is a pic of how to do it right. Of course you need to use stainless safety wire to do the job right. Any local small airport will have a pilot supply store that carries it.

Safety wire pliers make all the difference in the world. Even cheap Harbor Frieght safety pliers will work. Once you get the hang of it, it won't take you long at all. With a little practice you will be a pro!

:) If it takes safety wire, USE IT, the first time you don't, stuff will fall off when you don't want it to, like in the middle of Matomi wash :) Yes it is very helpful to have the right tool for the job, the pliers make the job so much easier, and so much prettier in the end... Ther are any number of savy off road guys in your area that can show you the tricks for a good safety wire job.....

cant argue that!!!!!!!!

ok, so you are wondering if you should safety wire something that should be safety wired to begine with. dont need to think much on that one. here you go...........
if it will break, it will
if it can come loose, it will
if it can fall off, it will
if you can lose it, you will
IF YOU CAN PREVENT ANY OF THE ABOVE, YOU CAN FIRST FINISH AND MAYBE FINISH FIRST!!!!!
follow these simple rules and you will find your answer as to wether you sould safety wire or not.

at work, we safety wire, locktight, torque, clamp, tape, glue, and paste anything and everything that can come loose. your question should not be "should i wire it", your question should be "why sould i NOT wire it".

Superfab's pic is a good start, but I don't know if you read the text or not. I'll mention this just in case it isn't obvious, and not to be insulting. You always want to place the wire such that the only way for the bolt to loosen is for the wire to stretch. There are cases where putting the wire across the wrong side of the bolt head means that wire will go slack when the bolt loosens. That would be NFG.

That sounds like an easy wire tie job. Try wire tying greasy cv joints, its a pain in the butt.

Well, assuming you don't like carpal tunnel syndrome, get the pliers. It makes like way easier. Safetey wire them, especially if it's something as important as brakes. Safety wire has saved my *** on my bike, so do it. A few grams is NOTHING compared to the consequences.
