Mooreparts told me I only needed one bearing for my steering wheel then the two u-joints and the shafts. Just thinking about it I would imagine I need two so there is no play in the steering wheel (so I can't pull it toward me). I have never looked at a rail or bug with custom steering so can any of you tell me if I am right and can someone please post pictures of your linkage from your steering wheel all the way to the rack?
Thanks in advance. Pahl

Most of the set-ups I've seen don't have an option of pulling the wheel towards you. There is usually one joint and the wheel will pivot on a radius. With this set-up, the wheel is further away from you at the top of the radius. Unless you like to sit really close to your wheel, I doubt you'll be adjusting it too much

With only one bearing on the shaft that the steering wheel is bolted to, and two U-J's in the system, the wheel will wiggle. That upper shaft ideally has a bearing at it's top and bottom.
The only other way to do this would be to put the second bearing on the shaft btwn the two UJ's. I would only go this route if there is no room for for the bearing on the lower end of the upper shaft. In this case the second bearing wants to be as close to the upper UJ as possible.

On my car, there is a heim mounted vertival up-side down where the steering shaft goes through. Mine is also held in plase more securely half way down by the Charlyne power steering unit. If you are not going to have a power steering unit, I would advise making another bearing or heim support half way down the shaft assembly to make the linkage are steardy as possible.

ntspd That is exactly what I wanted to hear. that is what made sense to me but mooreparts who until now has never steered me wrong (hehe steered!) threw me off a bit. I have plenty of room an will add a bearing as close to the u-joint as I can. Thanks!

I had one bearing on my steering (the UFO kind) and it would wobble tons. I bought another bracket and flipped it around, so I had 2 of them almost touching each other on the dashboard cross tube. Now there isn't any wobble. I am running 2 u-joints; one right after the bearing to keep the shaft higher up, and one directly on the rack stub.
