ok i have two questions regurading puttingmy rearend together.

the first in the picture the space between where the bearings and the step are is that supposed to be there? the bearings will not press on any farther.

also i know theres supposed to be an axel seal(lip seal) inthe flange correct? i foget tot get them from currie when i picked up my rearend so what vechicle uses the large bearing (3.150") axel seals so i can have the auto parts store pull the correct seal form inventory? or am i just 100000% confused and the seal is the rubber part on the bearing.

thanks for the help

From what i know, i could be wrong the step in the axle is where the inner part of the seal rides and seals. If the step in not in the seal then i think the axle is too long, but then again like i said i could be wrong.

Double check to make sure your axels are on the right sides. Curry is good about giving you the specs. on the sales order. There can be a longer side, which means the other axel might not be in the third member enough.

the retainer. thats what ithought at first but currie said since i am usinghte wilwood disk brakes the retainer is part of the caliper bracket wilwood provided. the space that is there is about the width of a retainer plate though.

also this is the short axel on the "short" side of the housing. the axels and housing were made at currie and since i have put rearends together i thought it was gonna be a piece of cake todo it my self and save me some money but its turning into a headache.

the bearings will not press on any farther.

the bearing needs to press on untill it hits the step in the axle. nothing goes between there, ever.

thanks ross for the help. i didnt use much force on the press but it did stop there. i will take the axels back to work and try to press them a bit further on.

i did find out that i do not need the tradtional seal that i was thinkig of cause appenrtly my bealrings are "sealed"

another thingyouneed to look out for too is whenyou put the rearend together you are responsible for anything that happens to it I.E. we put together a custoemrs rearend from currie around christmas time, aafter the customer drove home he noticed something wrong with the rearend making noise, two days later his rear end blew up, currie blamed us for it saying we installed the 3rd member wrong, how the hell do you install a 3rd member wrong?

oh and currie tald us to runt he retaining plates even when we run wilwood brakes and the black caliper bracket bolts up to the flange too...

i would take it back to currie and have them assemble it, it's not worth the headache of being blamed for it failing....since that incident we dont even take them apart here now if currie put them together......

only thing surrie supplied was the axles and hte housing. i had my 3rd member put together locally. if it blows up oh well ill cry but i odnt thinl theres anything i csn do about it.

about the retainers. i have no clue why mine are not on there. i saw some axels for sale on dezertrangers.com that had the retainer on them and they were to be used with a wilwood brake kit also.
