Smog check

I need to get my ranger smoged and the place I used to take it does not do smog anymore. I was hoping someone would know of a shop near Carlsbad that supports off-raod racing. The truck is legal just need to get it smoged and figured I would try and give my business to someone who supports our sport.

man i hate dealing with smog, probably a REAL GOOD idea to find an "off-road friendly" place to take it to.

Okay I found a good smog place for anyone with a prerunner in North San Diego County. They will even smog a truck with a fuel cell as long as all the stock breather connections are still in place and a stock gas cap. You can't have a open breather like most race cars. But they won't just fail you on the fact that you have a fuel cell. They are way cool and will work with you to get you legal. Not like most shops that just say sorry you failed that will be $$$ and have a nice day..

So if you are in need of smog in the North San Diego are I recommend you go to:

Encinitas Smog Test Only Center, 682 S. Coast Hwy. 101, Corner of F street, (760) 436-6232

They won't pass illegal cars or trucks but trust me they will do their best to help you pass.

tell me if am wrong ...are they TEST ONLY? isn't test only centers see whether you pass or not. But not an actually a smog station that is connected to DMV. I had a buddy explaining to me the other day. what a waste of time those test stations are? :/ :confused:

No....test only refers to the fact that the shop does not make any necessary repairs. I use test only stations because they have no motivation to sell you anything your car does not need. If your car fails at a test only station, you have to get it repaired elsewhere and bring it back for re-test.Check your reg renewal, some REQUIRE you to use a test only station.

Yes they are a test only station. But unlike most places they will actually tell you why you are not passing. They are connected to DMV. Trust me I have gone round and round with smog places. This place is way cool. They can't cheat or pass an illegal car or truck but they are willing to help you as much as they can to get your vehical to pass. Also sometimes you can only go to a test only place.

If I wasn't moving away in a few months I would never go to another smog station period!

test only sucks!!! a couple of years back, test only was a "random" pick by the DMV that usually covered older cars. (early to mid 80's were the target polluters). recent times have had almost "everyone" in that year range going to the "test only" stations. NOW, even cars in the late 90's get tagged. if you get tagged as a "gross polluter", forget it, your in trouble now. if you have any doubts, you can have a regular smog station do a "pre-test" to where none of the information is sent to the DMV and they will let you know if your cas passes or not. if all is good, then do your normal smog.

I have been using them for the last several years and can also recommend them. They have coupons in the PennySaver and local paper also to save some $$$
