It was at Freightliner getting an estimate on the repairs from the wreck in San Felipe. They called me about 4:30 and asked my why we picked it up. Which was a surprise to me. Thanks Robbie

what is up with all this race equipment getting stolen lately? was it just the tractor or the trailer and everything too?

It was the tractor and trailer. They both needed repairs after the crash at San Felipe. All the tools and most of the supplies were in the trailer too. Thanks Robbie

Is this the downside of our sport becoming more popular? That more poeple recognize race vehicles and their support equipment and the vale that they have? I know that theft is nothing new, but I'm appalled at the recent rash of thefts reported, and amazed that some of them are on a scale like this. You ever hear of a NASCAR or INDY rig getting stolen? WTF?
Robbie, I'm truly sorry to hear this, as if the recent Baja ordeal wasn't enough. I hope your stuff comes back to you intact. And perhaps even more importantly, I really hope they catch and punish whoever did this.
I think everyone will agree that this kind of cow excreetment is exactly what none of us need, and and none of us should tolerate, even second hand, theft.
Someone who steals doesn't just rob that individual, they take something from everyone of us, and there's no excuse for it. We'll all get boned from things like this, whether it be higher insurance rates, personal inability to goto events or have nice prerunners/race vehicles due to theft risk, or flat out loss of belongings. I'm not in any implying or suggesting that this is what's happening in this case; but what if a theft like this made a race team we've all been fans of for years decide the already high cost of racing just wasn't worth the expense anymore? What a loss something like that would be, and a shame, too.
Don't support theft by buying stolen or suspected stuff, and don't let theives get away with it whenever possible.
In case you didn't notice, theft is one of my pet peeves.
Again, best of luck to Collins Motorsports.

To put a finer point on it. There is ONLY theft because there is a MARKET for the stuff. There is only a market for the stuff because an aweful lot of parts get purchased for dirt cheap by someone more interested in a used DEAL than an honest purchase.
In short, the sport is doing it to itself. It's not like there is a black market selling TTs to Columbia.

Isn't Freightliner responsible.I would imagine that you called CHP and but out an APB?

Sad to see this happen, will tell local Mexicali truck fleet owners to pass the word around, its hard to hide a semi, and arent the guys from the shop responsible ???
somebody calls me why i took the car out of the shop, they're paying....
Its happening everywhere....

Could this be an inside job by someone that works at the Freightliner place and call a buddy to come and take it off their hands?? Seems it would be easy for someone to take a look inside the thing call a friend and get some really nice tools and what not and then call wolf about the missing truck? Just a thought, not saying the shop would do this.

If your going to drag them, drag them by the feet so it packs sand up their ass!

dam i think we need a anger venting forum for us who want to do bad things to bad people. Hope the shmucks are caught, i think a trailer like that, stands out like a sore thumb, so they probably would not park it in a drive way. Maybe in a big wearhouse either way i hope its found.

It isn't exactly easy to steal a 53' Competition Feathlite trailor a Freightliner truck. It must have been some sort of inside job or someone with a class A, since your normal Joe cannot drive a diesel truck. Trust me, i've tried it numerous times, isn't easy, and I know how the whole truck works from working in the industry.
Plus, where the hell are you gonna store a trailor that says "Collin Motorsports" all across the side of the trailor?

Well, I got a call from the metro police yesterday afternoon. The found the trailer in an abandoned mobile home park. I was stripped of everything that could be taken. Tool boxes, Tools, Radios, Spare parts, & Medical equipment. They bent all the belly box doors in the process. The funny thing is I made a wrong turn going to meet the police and found the tractor too! It was about a half of a mile away from the trailer. It also had been stripped. They even took the owners manuels, and the little fan thats mounted to the dash. So now the truck and trailer are back at freightliner for the repairs and they now have more to repair. I'll let you know how it turns out in the end. I'd like to thank everyone for looking for this and the support. Thanks Robbie

Semi hijacking (theft) occurs more than most people realize. That is why many of the larger firms are now putting on GPS tracking systems on thier rigs.

Robbie, I'm sorry to hear they were able to rape your semi before it was found.
It sounds like most of the items were not off-road race specific, and therefore a little harder to I.D. However, what if you gave us descripitions of some of the items. You never know, someone on this board just might come accross someone trying to sell something of yours, and if they contact you or the police, the thieves just might get caught. It's a long shot, but the more eyes you have looking, the better your chances are. I know how fustrating it can be with stolen items, the cops are very busy, there is a lot of crime going on, and no one was hurt in your case so it sometimes seems that they can't be bothered with your case. No disrespect to the police-they have a tough job to do, and in the grand scheme of things one stolen semi doesn't have the priority of other crimes.
Anyway, I'm sure most of the people that read here would be more than willing to let someone know if they thought they had come across something of Collins Motorsports for sale.
Best of luck.
