I was thinking about picking up a grizzly 6x48 Belt sander to fine tune some of the fab stuff I plan on doing in the future. I know these are primailrily used on woodworking. Will they work on metal by changing out the belt?
TIA

I used to have a generic brand 6"x48" belt sander before I switched to my burr-kings....it was primarily for wood but I switched to an aluminum-oxide belt...worked pretty good....I now use zirconia belts and discs from Klingspor on all of my sanding equipment....they work awesome and last longer than aluminum-oxide......

If your in Chula Vista, the guys over at WSE @ 619-575-4000 can order you the 6" x 48" belts in either alum oxide or zirconia. I have found that the sales guys at WSE really know their stuff in all areas of welding and fabrication.

I think I will have to pass on that Chula Vista shop, driving 800 miles for some belts might make them a bit expensive

David, if you want to PM me, I can give you info on Klingspor...they drop ship product right to my shop from their manufacturing site.....and their prices are lower than any other supplier I've had
