When I bought my Bronco the warning light was on, so last month I had a shop hook up a OBDII reader to check the codes. The codes were for the front and rear O2 sensors. I replaced both and the light went off. while driving today the light came on for about 30 minutes and went off again all within 40 miles of instalation of sensors. Will I need to reset the engine check light or does it reset itself? I heard you had to drive it over 70 miles after light resets before you get the smog done. Thanks Ron Plunkett. It is a 96 with 302.

I have a 95 with a 351 and the light comes on after driving for 15-40 minutes, depending on how fast I am going, or if I'm pulling anything.
I replace the Ox. sensor too, and it did nothing, along with a full tune-up. Odly enough, I'm thining the catalytic converter might be plugged full of crap. Probably needs to be replaced anway.
Going to schedule an appointment at team ford and see what they say. I guess the codes are "kept" so it doesn't have to be "on" at the time. That's why I race an 85 with no frickin' computer!!
I'll let ya know what I find out, if I ever get around to it.

if youre still having the warning light.... try disconnecting the battery and depress the brakes. re-connect and drive for about 15 mins on different situations (stop and go / highway) that should clear your codes.

Well you do want to get it fixed before you go to get it smogged. I had problems with passing smog because my ranger would not pass all of its self test. Things as simple as your gas cap being loose can cause a check eng. light. Just be glad you don't have something like a Jag. which the smog guy was telling me can takes several hours on the dyno to clear the codes  .. I was able to drive my truck about 10 miles and come back and she passed! I wish I knew more to help you cause it sure is a royal pain in the **BAN ME****BAN ME****BAN ME****BAN ME****BAN ME**..

hey ron, have your codes reset and then see if they come on again. if they do, you have a problem somewhere. OBDII can be your best friend AND your worst enemy. like tony said, even a loose gas cap can cause a bad signal to your computer. ken, how you doing?? still working on my bronco so watch out!!! J/K. hey as far as your 95 bronco goes, usually the first cat will get clogged (it has 2, one in front of another). what we always did with our customers (when i ran a shop) was to eliminate one of the two and install a good hi-flow in its place. and they still passed smog (not that you should have a problem anyway in vegas). the front cat is a pain-in-the-ass, so we always hollowed out the front and installed one in the rear. anyway, if you have any questions, give me call. see ya

This site explains a bit about Ford's EEC - "electronic engine control". It focuses mostly on EEC-IV, though, and I think the 95 or 96 Broncos used OBD-II, and not EEC-IV. It may have something on OBD-II, though.

Also, 85's do have computers, though not OBD-II. There's a section in that site that tells you how to pull codes on 85's.
Hope this helps.
