Heard that the guys running desert racing in a 1600 car are getting 15-18" rear travel. Is this possible with a stock pivot? If yes please share the wealth!!!!! Offline or online- I'm all ears-
Thanks,
Todd

when i worked for Ledezma off road i helped biuld a 5-1600 with 18'' in the rear took alot of tinkering with axles cvs and spring plates, and ran 33

Did you use special axles/cvs? The cv is overtraveld with what I have tried using 930 cvs(trick cages)/and type 1 stub axle. I have heard talk about Corna joints and sometype of split/slider axle shafts.

First, it's not about sharing the wealth, it's about spending it. Most often, a serious amout of time is spent running the travel with modified heavy duty pivots matched to 4130 spring plates and 300m torsion bars(a must for the most twist). Now racers trying to get the most travel and dependability are using micro stubs or modified bus drums and stubs(no type 1 stuff anymore). Also many are polishing and reworking 930's with undersized balls to got the most travel.

I dont think those plunger slider two peice drive shafts are legal for 5-1600. We used spescial 930 cv's and used over boots to eliminate the boot flange and did a few other things to at the pivot points and shox.

How does he do that with a 1-1600 car I thought the rear width had to be 54" from backing plate to backing plate.

The key here is axle length. You have a 16.25" axle on your car with type 1 stuff. With STOCK type 2 bearings, housing,& stub or micro stubs you will have a 19"+/- long axle. Your width will stay the same. The numbers these guys are talking about are possible at 28 degrees with this long of axle. A 1/1600 car doesn't have fender wells, so they get even more up travel than a 5/1600.
