I have been trying to find the info I saw a few days ago about a slave saver kit for VW based hydraulic slave cylinders. I tried the search, but I think there was just a link to the shop in Bakersfield that makes, or sells them but I can't remember the name of the shop, and like tonight, it was late the night I saw the kit, and like a Dumb **BAN ME****BAN ME****BAN ME****BAN ME****BAN ME** I didn't bookmark the site. Does anyone know about these kits, or remember the post that had the link??? Please HELP!!!

I also had another question... With this Transmission swap on my buggy, I'm wondering if there are any other things I am going to have to change for the 002/091 trans that replaced the swing axle type 2 trans... i.e. flywheel, clutch, starter etc... to mate up to my type 1 engine.

The thing that made me think there might need to be other changes is I have already changed the lower engine/tranny studs that were longer for the deeper bell housing.

The flywheel that is on the engine is an 8 doweled, lightened 12V (200mm if I remember correctly). I have the Hi-Torque starter that came with the 002/091 tranny when I bought it, or will I need to use my old starter that was on the swing type 2???

Thanks for any help with these questions... The buggy is almost done except for the electrical, flex brake lines, and the make it pretty part. I'm thinking about re-designing a new dash for it too.

Thanks again... L8r,

Wes

DOH!!! Never mind, I just found it... They are made by VW Country in Bakersfield... Looks like a cool product, anyone have any experience with them?
Thanks Wes

I use one on my 9 car. Makes the mounted end of the cylinder more free to move and appears to put less stress on the slave. I added a Tech article on Formulanine.com with pictures. They are cnc machined and VW Country makes them for most applications. http://www.formulanine.com/SlaveSaver/slave_saver.htm

Glad you found the slave saver. The only thing you might have to modify on your trans will be the inout shaft. Check the length that is sits out past the bell bousing. On my 002 I had to cut about 3/8" off to make it the same length as the the Irs or in this case swingaxle. Nothing that a sawzall and small grinder can't handle. It doesn't have to be pretty because the end does nothing but not shortening it will keep the motor from sliding all the way in.

Good luck

PM if you have more questions

Thanks Mike,

That is the article I had seen... I guess I had clicked on the formulanine.com link instead of the class nine link when I found it the first time and thought it was on this site.

Hey are you going to do that body article they have listed on there?? I'm interested in seeing it when you have some pix up on it. I need to add some sheet metal to my car now that the chassis is extended, it needs some body work on the back. I was going to start messing around with trying to make some up, and an article like that with pix would be a big help!!

And thank you too Kevin for your reply... I was able to get the engine on the car, but now that I think about it, I may need to shorten the input shaft... It did seem a little hard to get the engine to go all he way on. I hope I didn't hurt the motor mounting it... http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/confused.gif All the other stuff should work though?

Glad to hear that, cuz I've blown my budget big time on this project and still have a bunch of little stuff to get and didn't want to have to replace a bunch of good parts just because of the swap.
