I need to get some help here. One of my professors is offering some big points for anybody who can help him out. Deal is he has a 92' S10 that had a 4.3 v-6 in it with a stick. Pulled it out with 250k on it and he got an 04 4.3 V-6 that he is going to put in it and wants to keep it smog legal and everything. Catch is he wants to keep his Throttle Body injection from the 92 so he doesnt have to re-wire it. (funny thing is I am taking an electronics class from him http://www.race-dezert.com/vb3/attachments/old/images/graemlins/confused.gif) He says he has found a holley manifold that will allow him to run the TBI on the new motor but he isn't sure if it has the egr on the new manifold for smog stuff. So has anybody done this before or know what he is looking for? Is there a manifold that allows you to do this type of swith? Does the problem revilve around the new obdII smog on the new one vs the old. This guy was a mechanic for 14 years, did drag racing(super gas), and hes got his PHD. Thanks for any help I will owe you big time if it works out.

Does the holley manifold have a CARB number on it? If not that could fail you right there.

Can the 93 intake be modified to fit the 04 engine? That's what I would do. All stock parts = no red flags at the Smog Check place.

Yes, the intake ports should be different. It should the "vortec" style that were found on the GEN II 5.7L V-8's of that vintage. I dont recall seeing any manifolds that were that style for a 4.3. If he really wants this new engine he may have to swap his old heads over so the intake will work.

Ok I'll let him know what you guys have said so far, sounds pretty logical. Thanks so much

Tell your buddy to give Edelbrock a call. They have conversion kits for the TBI-Vortec stuff. They might be of some use. Also try SDPC2000.com. They are scoggin-dickey Chevrolet, in Texas, they also do alot of swap stuff.

The 04 has VORTEC heads and the 92 does not. The only way way to make the swap work is to use the heads off of the 92, but you might lose some power.
